Is this a new Variety, or just an anomaly?

If you are talking about the fatter top of the 9 in the date, this is not a variety. It is one of two things. It is either a die chip that has worn smooth, or a hit to the coin that has worn smooth. Nice photos!

I think you're right bob. The way the chip broke off and left the end of the serif on the nine split fooled me as we're all optimists ...lol ... I appreciate your candor. I'm posting another coin today. A 1982 Washington Quarter. It has an error I'm not familiar with and I don't know what to call it. If you could take a look and give me an opinion I'd be grateful. Thanks again
