1963 JEFFERSON PROOF NICKEL DDR?
I am looking at a 1963 Jefferson Proof Nickel. I bought it for the stunning Pecan Toning but a closer look on the back looks promising. I see what appears to be class VI doubling and some doubling at the bottoms of the letters in 'UNUM'. Thoughts or comments?Tags: None

Hello Bob, I have attached two pics showing the "extra thickness" I am seeing. The subject coin is the center picture in both groupings. The others are just other 1963 Jefferson Proof Coins I have. Am I looking for the wrong thing? I have also attached a pic of PLURIBUS which at closer look appears to have more of the Class 2 doubling. Thanks for the input and help.Last edited by rbroederer; 05-05-2021, 09:14 PM.

I agree with Bob, definite minor class 2 doubling. If confined to UNUM or that area it's probably just too minor, though I might see it in PLURIBUS. Class 6 would be noticeable mostly along the periphery, but on the horizontal elements (similar types of places where ne sees class 2). The comparison graphic shows variations in thickness from die wear and die abrasion where the fields have been sanded down and the devices have thinned out.
When Jeffersons fully open and I have the team assembled, check back and we will see where we are at with minor listings.Jason Cuvelier
