CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

Are there any official CONECA attributers here that can answer this?

This coin is also listed on John Wexler's site as WUFO-001.

I'm unclear as to what CONECA's relationship to Variety Vista is right now. My understanding was that James Wiles was no longer adding to the CONECA master listing, but everything that had been there before this transition took place was still good. New stuff has been in limbo and would show up only (or maybe just first) on CONECA's site. James Wiles has added some to Variety Vista, but with a W prefix to differentiate from the CONECA numbers. I don't know if RDV-001 is James's number or CONECA's. It would seem to be CONECA's, but there's no trace of it here anywhere.

It would be nice if this were an official CONECA listing.

There just doesn't seem to be many CONECA eyes watching this forum. What gives??

Variety Vista and CONECA are connected. There have been a complete revamping of the master variety list for the last couple of years that is now being released. You can see the beginnings of it here.

      https://www.conecaonline.info/

You can contact the lead attributer to see if he is ready to list it.

As far as CONECA eyes watching this forum, how many do you think read it? Why is the number important to you? Just curious. Everyone knows about your coin, and the work you have done to get it recognized. However, just because people don't post comments in the forum, does not mean it isn't read. Most people just read it, and do not participate by posting.

If the last thing you require is a CONECA listing number, then you will be taken care of as soon as that denomination is ready for listings, or if the attributer is ready for you. Once again, please contact the lead attributer and ask him. I will PM you with his name although I think you may already have it.

        Bob-

I don't know how many people read it, that's why I'm asking.

The number of key CONECA players reading this forum is not important to me. I'd just like to know if "anyone" is reading it. I only see you and a handful of others providing feedback. Why do you think that is? But you just made my point for me. Why do I need to contact Jason if he's reading the forum? What's the point of the forum?.. Just curious.

Besides; I contact Jason months ago back in Dec of last year. He had the coin in-hand for a couple of months and couldn't or wouldn't attribute it. It seemed like a lot of folks were afraid to go out on a limb and put their reputations on the line to validate and attribute it. Isn't that what you guys at CONECA do, examinations and attributions of varieties?

I understand this CONECA thing is all voluntary and the process is slow and takes time. I have no problem with that. But examples like this seem to fall into a black hole with little or no follow-up or feedback, unless you're biting the heels of someone.

At this point, it doesn't really matter. It's already a done deal without CONECA's help. But thanks for "your" feedback, I do appreciate it.

Why would you ask that? Do you think I know every one of our thousand CONECA members personally? Do you think we hang out and discuss your coin? Do you know how many of them actually participate on forums?

Here's the question you should be asking. "How many people here are interested in my coin enough to make a comment?'

I think your answer is the 'handful of people' that have provided feedback. Nothing more, nothing less.

I hear you, but your rationale is way off base here. As we tried to say from the beginning, you need to do the work if you want some progress. You are one of the VERY FEW who have actually done it. If you want it listed, then you take the initiative. The part you need to keep doing is stay persistent like you did before. You are not the only collector out there. WE cater to thousands.

How many even have the slightest interest in a coin like yours? 1...2...3? It's a guess and chances are the number is terribly low. Congrats on getting your variety identified, but in the long run, you are nothing but one of thousands who have their name listed on a site for a coin reported to others..

Do you think really think Jason only has you and your coin to worry about? You think CONECA is afraid to go out on a limb? What we don't do is bow to the pressure of a single person. We have had thousands of collectors over the years, and each one of them is important. You are a lucky one who had positive things happen, but remember that you did a lot of the work yourself. That is what CONECA wants. But you need to also remember that you did get some help from CONECA. If it falls through he black hole as you state, it is up to YOU to remind them.

All I do know is that you have taken many attempts to trash (whether intentionally or not) us. We are not fast enough for you. Not enough of our membership is reading your post. Not enough input from our membership on your coin. You can not understand why people don't go out on a limb for your coin.

I have really had quite enough of this post. I will say it once again. Jason is our lead attributer. He is who you need to contact. I sent you his contact information.

I do not believe in flogging a dead horse and this post is more about disgruntlement than the coin itself. In my opinion, the thread should be closed so people can focus on other coins and not have to defend their way of life. That's about as much as I am gonna say and no more, no matter what.

You obviously don't read my posts. Why would I want to contact Jason......again? I don't need his contact information. I told you, I contacted him back in December plus he had the coin for two months! It obviously didn't work, did it? What else would you like me to do?

You may have thousands of CONECA members here. That means very little to me, unless they can add additional value to this thread.

You don't have thousands of CONECA staff. Yes, I know they cater to thousands. And you know as well as I, 90% of it is crap! You would think when they see a true anomaly like a Wisconsin extra leaf (for example), they would take the initiative and a proactive roll in solving the issue but I guess not!

Do I think the CONECA attributers hang out and discuss the coin? No, I don't. You wanta know why? It's simple, because they don't have the answer or explanation about the coin on how or why it happened, that's why! They're not going to waste their time on something they can't solve,
embarrass them or puts their reputation on the line.

It's got nothing to do with "MY" coin..........it's got everything to do with "THE" coin.

You wouldn't think there's any professional competition, problems, issues, personality conflict and or bragging rights going on here between curtain individuals, groups or organizations would you??.. Not much! Would you like me to spell it out for you?

Again, thanks for your feedback. I do appreciate it. I'm done here with CONECA!

OK Tim. I hope you are finished with your rants, because I am. As the moderator of this forum, I have determined that this post offers no redeeming value to our membership any more.

As far as I am concerned 'THE COIN' is nothing to anyone who doesn't show an interest, and that is about 99.9% of the membership. Why is that so hard to understand? It doesn't mean anything to anyone but you. You are not special because you have it, and no one should have to listen to this any more. That should be apparent to you by now. I offered a lot of direction. I told you where to go, who to contact, and cheered you on the whole way. This is what I get? You came here...to my territory. Remember that.

Now that you have bad mouthed one of the most respected organizations in numismatics, it is time for you to go. I know that your statements about the CONECA membership not knowing anything is spoken out of anger because you can't get your way. The folks you have insulted know more than you can ever dream of knowing. The more you talk, the more you show how ignorant you are about this hobby. I feel sorry for you.

So as you may have guessed, this post will be closed. It will not be deleted...yet. I will talk to all those terrible CONECA people about you, and we will determine if you stay a member or not. I know it means little to you, so it's no big deal...right?
