Thank you for taking a moment to help me with this coin. This is my first time posting. I was going through my collection and I came across this small date 1982 penny. When I weighed it it weighs 2.51g. As I turned this zinc penny over to the reverse I could see with the naked eye the pronounced doubling on all of the letters. Take a look at my pics. Surely I am missing something. There’s only been a handful of these ever found and I’m not lucky enough to have one in my hand Can you please explain to me what I have? The only difference I can see between my coin and the coin I see in my Cherrypickers guide is that my coin is not struck with that conical shape of the die that they were originally hubbed with. My letters are more full as if that die had been changed out. Thank you in advance for your help!

Help with a 1982 small date zinc please!

It is definitely a small date zinc cent, but I am afraid I do not see any doubling on your photos. We want to make sure, so is it possible to take close-up photos that are in focus? Use the photos in the link for comparison, but I just can't tell based on your photos alone.

Lincoln Cent Attributer

Hi Bob. Here are some better pics for you to look at. You should see a medium to heavy spread among the letters in USA, EPU, and one cent. On the obverse you should find a much lighter spread on Liberty, and IGWT. Although thin, the lettering on the obverse has a much more noticibly rounded shape and appears to sit higher which to me is indicative of light doubling. What you won’t see is the weird conical shape the letters in FS-801 have so I assume that’s enough to exclude applying this attribute to my coin. However this still leaves me with an 82 small date zinc to which I’m not sure which direction to go with it next? It must be rather difficult to come by. I’ve never seen it outside the FS-801. Any advice and direction is greatly appreciated. Thanks Bob!
