CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

At first, I thought maybe it was a ding right on the MM but after finishing the roll, I found 14 of them. Then I thought maybe its a new RPM. Not too sure about that either. Could this be from die abrasion? Different angles its sharper and straighter. Then others it looks curved. Would be a nice RPM but Im leaning more toward over polishing. What's your thoughts?

That one's tough. I am almost inclined to believe the punch was struck at an angle rather than a repunching. Great photo, but I just can't be for sure.

I used a tablet to magnify this as much as I could.
The line on the lower serif looks a bit jagged. I would think the line would be a little bit more straight if it was the typical split serif I am used to seeing.
I don't know if that was simply some extra metal on the punch or, if the punch itself was cracked. It doesn't seem to be very deep. It takes a lot to see which might take it out of the realm of a CONECA new listing as it appears shallow as well as faintly split. It may be simply too minor to list.

I too have seen my fair share of oddball potential RPMs.

Not sure what you’re looking at. Its not the serif Im talking about. I dont even keep most split serifs. Its the part off the vertical bar. I think its just from over polishing. Already put them back in a roll. My raw pictures are big as you could possibly need but have to be reduced a lot to post on this forum. I can crop down to just the mint mark if you need it. I found about 10 more of them and 1 was a later die stage but honestly I dont think its an RPM. Ill be more specific next time with arrows

No, I don't need any additional photos, I am sated with what you have provided.

I personally don't see anything on the crossbar that I would call a potential RPM.
If it's related to that brighter area of the horizontal bar, in my opinion, it is not an RPM.

If a coin has some offset when it comes to RPM's may show how ever so slight in another area as well.
That lower serif to me, of all areas on that mintmark was the most "promising" area, even if extremely minor.

There are quite a few 1956-D RPM's still out there. I found five RPM-001's in December in a BU roll. Those are a neat find.

I'll use arrows next time. If there's a next time. You are over analyzing this.

Split lower serif RPM. Any evidence on upper serif is obscured by die polishing.
