CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

1984 D - LMC - What do you think is going on with D?

  • 1984 D - LMC - What do you think is going on with D?

    Hello all. Just curious as to what some folks think is going on with this D. It kinda looks like an RPM but I cannot match it with anything on coppercoins so I am assuming it is NOT an RPM.

    I see some of the features normally associated with RPM'S a notch on the top left, split serif lines and that shadow of the D to the right and below.

    Need some clarification so that I can learn what I am really seeing.

    That is a plating issue and the zinc core is peeking through. Pretty common on the earlier copper plated zinc memorial cents from 82 on.
