    2022 Maya Angelou Quarter Question

Hello. It’s my understanding there’s a new doubled die for this quarter? The doubled earring? I heard there has been only one found so far and that a Dr. Wiles here has attributed it now? Well, I’ve got one. See pics. My question is what to do with it? I know there are no sales on it yet and I would consider selling mine but should I get it attributed by Dr Wiles so I can have a letter to take to ANACS? Or is there even enough potential value in the quarter for that to be worth it? If it’s going to hold a value between $5-$200 I’ll auction it. However If it’s a coin that will potentially be worth significantly more I’ll probably hold on to it. I just wanted to find out what you guys know and what my smartest course of action should be given the DD is so new? If getting it attributed by Dr. Wiles is the ideal way to go may I get his information so I can send it to him?

    Thanks,
    Don

Dr. Wiles does not attribute for CONECA any more Don. With that being said, this coin does appear to be a doubled die. Whoever the attributer is for quarters (Most likely Jason Cuve), they would add it to the files and assign a number. This variety is pretty new, and it is difficult to say how may have been reported. I suggest you contact Mr. Cuve and ask him if he is willing to attribute this coin for you.

Thanks Bob. I was a little unclear about who Jason is with? Coneca, Anacs? VV? As of last week it’s my understanding only one had been reported and it was brought to Dr. Wiles for authentication and attribution. None have sold as of yet. If you can tell me where to go locate Jason I’ll track him down…

Jason is the lead attributer right here at CONECA Don. You can contact him at 'cuvelier@aya.yale.edu' and see what he has to say about it. Dr. Wiles has not attributed anything for CONECA in over a year and a half, so I doubt very seriously that he attributed this and assigned a Variety Vista number. I do not know who said that and why. Either way, it is not his call now, but it is Jason's or his designated attributer.

Hi Bob. See below. This is the video where I first heard about Dr. Wiles attributing the coin. I also have here his response letter to Evelyn, the lady who first discovered it. Apparently another gentleman Scott has found one as well and sent it off to Wexler. The letters came off of Blueridge Silver Hounds live Q&A with a panel of experts. It’s a different video than the title page of the video I have below however both videos are done by Shaun at Blue Ridge SH. In the video below Shaun talks about Evelyn, her discovery and her sending it to Dr. Wiles. Take a look.

              Thanks! Don

I did not know any of that Don. I don't know why Dr. Wiles would do an attribution when it is not his call. I guess that's why he stated it was a 'Probable" DDR. Either way, the lead attributer for CONECA now is Jason Cuvelier at the email address I gave you. I will leave it at that and ask for clarification from the CONECA Board. I don't wish to make any waves concerning any future Variety Vista listings.

Thanks Bob. What I kind of got out of all of that was he did a preliminary look but that he was passing it on to you guys. Not sure. Anyway I have already passed the pics on the Jason but have not hear back from him yet. I hope he gets back to me soon but I’m sure he’s a busy man. Not sure if I told you but back when the Maya quarters first came out i has put back a couple quarters and forgot about them. When I pulled them out and checked them I found ANOTHER doubled earring quarter!! I now have 2 and I sent both pics to Jason.
Just got in another 6 Bu rolls of 1972’s so I’m going to jump in them now. Thanks for everything Bob!
