1971-D 5C DDR Possibility?
Good evening! I am reaching out to see if anyone can help identify if a coin is indeed a DDR variety for a 1971-D Jefferson Nickel. I haven’t been able to find a existing example, so it made me question the reality that it is. Any guidance is greatly appreciated.Tags: None

I attempted to expand the reverse to as big as I could get it on the tablet and I did not see anything significant. That, along with no previous listings lean heavily as to it not being a doubled die, in my opinion.
Nickels typically show split serifs and some separation in between images. There may even be a thin cookie cutter style line where one impression was done over the other.
The impressions should be close to the same height for a doubled die. If they are at different heights, suspect machine doubling.
A post which show both is within my signature block.Last edited by MintErrors; 07-13-2022, 05:18 AM.Gary Kozera

I added some arrows. Apologies for my somewhat lack of understanding regarding double dies.Attached Files

Sorry Phil,
I tried to zoom this also. The zoom becomes to grainy when the photo is taken at 640PX. You'll have to micro or increase your pixels for us to zoom. Or take a close up like this. This is 1945-D DDR-002 / RPM#21 in the Jeffs. This will make it easier for us to evaluate.
Thanks, Eric
