  • 1914/3 Overdate Buffalo Nickel

    Hello!
Won this at auction from a seasoned and supposed reputable coin dealer on eBay but when I got it home I’m looking and struggling to make out the three behind the four! Could someone verify and authenticate this variety please? I’m going to send it back if it has been misattributed. I gave you included in the pics PCGS’ 1914/3 from CoinFacts for reference. Thanks!!

    Hey Bass.
I am not an expert, and am just learning much more that helps me respond to my pareidolia and desire to find certified variety errors.
It would be much easier to verify errors by photo (having been counseled here more than once, lol ) if every coin were in very fine or better condition. I am looking forward to the expert opinions, to help me going forward, because all I see is wear and smear of the braid tie and date. You?

A couple of other things I was curious about with your nik was with as much wear as there is on the date that the F is so defined and the other, if you would answer for me please is the chop mark looking stamp under the chin by the throat.

As an attributer, I could neve positively identify this coin as the variety. It is just too worn.

        Some other info for you:

The letter "F" you see on the "heads" side under the place where the date is located, stands for the designer's last name, James Earl Fraser. All Buffalo nickels have the designer's initials on it regardless of the mint facility where it was manufactured.

Just as future reference, was this coin delisted by Wexler as a variety?
