CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

  • Communication with CONECA

I've attempted to communicate with several folks at CONECA for more than a year, but have received no response. Would like to know if anyone reading this has had any communication with any of the attributors, examiners, or club officials in any capacity recently (within the last year or so). From my perspective this site is running on autopilot, but perhaps others are in contact with folks.

And if any of the club officals, attributors, examiners, etc are reading this, I'd appreciate a reply on the forum letting us all know that the club is still functioning with attributions, examinations, etc.

I would suggest that if you are trying to reach somebody on the CONECA board, perhaps you should try reaching out to them. I get 100+ emails a week from CONECA members and others asking questions. I also know for a fact that several other board members respond to a ton of emails, Facebook private messages, Text and other forms of communication on a daily basis. As President of CONECA I find your accusation rather troubling. This site is NOT on autopilot as you suggest, It takes a lot of volunteers to run this site. YES VOLUNTEERS. Now if you are simply looking to get the ire of somebody in charge at CONECA, Ray, you have succeeded. All of our contact info is in every issue of the Errorscope. As a life member of CONECA I would suspect that you would know that. The club is still functioning as you well know, we are actually one of the few clubs in America that are actually growing right now as you I am sure are well aware of.

I'm not trying to get anyone's ire, and I made no accusations. My main concern is with the attribution services, which I understood to be completely online per earlier communications with the attributors. I am not the only one who has seen a "black hole" regarding attributions, and indeed I have postings on this site that have gone unanswered by the attributors for over a year.

You mention emails, FB, Text, etc but I see you left out the Forums where attributions are requested. Are you saying that the Attribution forum is no longer functional, and that I should be emailing the attributor directly? This seems to go against the Variety Attributions process published in Errorscope, which only mentions the "Forum submission process". From what I can see, that process is not working correctly.

I honestly did not think I would need to go directly to the club President to get an answer, but I do appreciate your reply and I hope you can clear up the process of getting attributions done.

FYI, I have emailed Jason to get an update on the attribution process. Will post back to this forum with the info I receive.

Ray, for attributing you would have to post a coin with pics on the Services/Attribution page.

Yes, I did this back in the Dec 2020 - Feb 2021 timeframe with several varieties that I vetted with Bob and others on the LCF. I posted them to the Attributions webpage (in 6 separate threads), and Jason reviewed the images and asked that I send them in for attribution. By Dec 2021 he had reviewed them and decided to add several (4 I believe) of them to the CONECA listings. But since then there have been several changes, including the CONECA Master List now being handled directly by CONECA rather than by James Wiles via the Variety Vista website, and as far as I can tell the new listings have not been added to the Master List. I've tried to get clarification on what was happening with the new listings since then, but have not heard any updates from CONECA for over 2 years.

I can understand, as I too am working on getting new coins listed ....With the movement of the VV files to CONECA... The amount of Pics, and verbiage to sort through and organize and code for our software has been daunting. Jason is working diligently on posting the VV listings onto the new CONECA pages, Peter has been working behind the scenes too. This all takes time and is curranty being worked on. If Jason said he would list any, they will be listed. We are having issues with volunteers on the board to do the jobs. Even I am trying to help with the attributing at this time until January. This has been a massive undertaking for Peter, Jason, and others...... James. Greg, Mark, me and others have tried to help where we can. I ask for your patience on these matters. as we have jobs and family that we have to take care of with this. If needed try to email: James, Mark, Peter, or Jason... I believe there had been posts on CONECA and here to our standings on these issues, and maybe not direct emails...... Thank You for that patience, John

I like CONECA as well. I'm a lifetime member and have been active in varieties for 35 years. I have several of my RPM and Doubled Die discoveries listed by CONECA. I do understand that folks may be overwhelmed by the changes in the way CONECA lists errors and varieties, but after 2+ years of being ignored, I figured enough is enough and I had to speak up.

I did get an email from Jason saying that he is looking into things. I'll post later about what I hear.

I have an update on the Attribution process issue. Jason Cuvelier got back to me regarding the listing process, and my new listings. It sounds like there is some kind of process he is going to try that will allow him to show the new listings on a special page. I'm expecting another update in a few days and will post here again when I know something new.

how long does it typically take to get a response? I posted a coin in the attribution forum, and another in the examinations, and its been two weeks and I've received no help.

Last Attribution forum response I received from Jason was in April 2021. I've sent 3 requests for updates since then, in June 2022, Feb 2023, and May 2023, with no responses back. I have recently received a couple emails from Jason, but no responses on the Attribution forum. The Attribution forum is the only vehicle for receiving attributions according to Errorscope. This is why I started this thread, out of frustration as well as hoping to get some answers assuming CONECA folks were monitoring. I hate being a squeaky wheel, but isn't the whole point of CONECA to attribute / examine / publish / advocate for Varieties and Errors?
