CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

"What do you think about the damage?"

I agree it is damage. Couldn't begin to say how it happened.
(Estoy de acuerdo en que es daño. No podría empezar a decir cómo sucedió.)

In my opinion, this looks like damage, being that these zinc cents are subject to zinc blisters and breaks through the copper plating. Since the coin is circulated, it is unknown what may have caused this. It may have been done inside the mint ,during the upset mill, where the rim is put on to the coin. And over the years. It failed. The zinc can leak out and stain the coin.

It may have been in a electronic coin counter and was spinning there. This could have damaged the area as well. Once the coin becomes circulated it is very difficult to some of these, as many variables are added.

To finish with this coin, if you can, the design of #2 is what intrigues me the most, that it looks like another mint variety.
