CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

Interesting 1925 Guatemala 5 Centavose Double Die needs identification.

I found this in a box of foreign coins with two other 1925 5 centavos that are not doubled.
I could not find a reference to this double die, but will appreciate any comments.

I can't believe it's been several years since I posted this, and I'm still trying to find out if this double die has ever been attributed.
Has anyone seen this one anywhere?
    Thanks.

There is nothing listed on NGC's World price guide nor on Numista.
I do not own the World Coin Guides from Krause so I cannot help there.

I have a friend who collects overdates from all over the world and he is finding a lot not listed in the references as well. It seems that the varieties side is far from complete on the commonly used websites. You may be able to offer them a few good photos and see if they will list the coin, and maybe give you credit for the photos/find. I'd start with Numista.

      https://www.ngccoin.com/price-guide/...6-duid-1335447

Detailed information about the coin 5 Centavos, Guatemala, with pictures and collection and swap management: mintage, descriptions, metal, weight, size, value and other numismatic data

I do not have a lot of experience with World coins from Guatemala, so I don't know their processes for making dies and striking coins.

In my opinion, I will say some of the areas on the coin look like a doubled die, and there are others that look like machine damage. The 1924 dated side looks like machine damage and the 1926 dated side looks like deices are doubled with some split serifs.

I suggest adding a post in CONECA Services area.
Go to the main forum page
Go under the CONECA Services page
      Go under attributions area
add a post under the attributions forum

You can add this links and the best photos you can do. I suggest adding as much text and photos as you can to include a full obverse and reverse of the coin.

If you need to add more than 8 photos, you can reply to your own post and add more. The more info the better. Let them know where you researched so it cuts down on time.

I say this because its best to add all this info up front so there is less time processing this request.

This is a volunteer club, manned by volunteers. Its not a commercial entity like the third party grading services.

I do not know if they charge a small pre-screen fee per coin. CONECA pre-screens all coins on this forum before they allow coins to be seen in hand by a CONECA staff. It cuts down on the amount of coins to be looked at. You can find more info on the main page, https://conecaonline.org

If you have any concerns, you can contact Jamez and he should be able to handle your questions.

MintErrors I appreciate your response. Currently I have no camera set up for taking close-up images that are in focus but am working on the camera stuff. As an alternative, I am planning on attending the ANA World's Fair of Money in August 2025, and as a CONECA LM, may volunteer to man the CONECA table (if there is one) during part of the show. If I don't have images to submit per your instructions prior to the show, then I'll bring the coin with me for any of the CONECA folks to look at and give opinions.

Meanwhile, I will do more research.

          Thanks!

Kent, we are actually looking for some help at the OK. ANA show this August. Please contact me and I will put you in touch with Greg who will be taking that table for us. I would suggest you take that coin with you to that show. I know of no one that is really doing Doubled Dies on foreign but there will be ( I think ) a guy there who knows alot about them. Brian Raines is his name. you can use my name if you wish to open a dialog with him. ( He is a dealer ) You can reach me at James@Conecaonline.org

I can offer this post. It should allow for a decent clear photo of anything coin related. You can use books, boxes or anything to create a stable landing for the phone.

One other thing, if you have the coin in a holder some cameras will autofocus on the thin mylar or even the cardboard of the holder vice the coin itself. If you have the resources to remove the coin to take photosand place it into another holder the photos without any holder may come out clearer.

I know Brian R. he has been at the VNA in Virginia. It takes a bit to get on his "good" side, but most conversations are pleasant. As a fellow dealer , he does like to walk around a lot at the VNA looking to Cherry Pick, so catching up with him would be your toughest challenge at the ANA.

Brian usually sets up a table when he's here in St. Louis and Southern IL.
He does move around alot, so you may have to ask other dealers to point you in his direction.
