1988 Italy 500 Lire Error
Greetings, Italian 500 lire coin 1988, it is possible to appreciate the minting error on the date, and part of the Quirinal Square, I can still notice that the bronze center is smaller than usual since it should completely fill the ring of acmonital. I appreciate your comments on this. Thank you

I have looked through thousands of these bi-metallic type coins. This particular error is actually pretty common. The center core is made to fit inside the outer ring tightly, so it is indeed the right size. The rim you are seeing is actually from the die striking the coin. It is not adjusted properly. Heer is some good info concerning these type coins, but I can assure you, this is pretty common, especially on the Italian 500 Lire coin.

The issue seems very minor in any event. If it was mutistruck or off center, the it would be worthsomething. Numista.com may have more data on the coin. Research the country under coins and search for the date. Then you can pick the denomination, and read much info,Gary Kozera
