1940 S JN RPM or PMD?

One of the advanced things we do is try to see if this may be an rpm by looking at its position. Each one of the working dies had the mintmark hammered into it by hand. In most cases the mintmark will vary in location.
We can look at variety vista and see if there is a potential match.

From there, on my pc, I have the paint.net program which is free, and great for adding layers on top of each other. Then, you can make one layer almost sheer or see through allowing me to make an overlay to see if the mint marks match up in the same exact place.
It some what looks like PMD, lower, flat or shelf like. There may be other areas like the base of the Montecello that has some damage, at the bottom of the photo.
The hardest part of it all is getting the photos and associated design elements the same size in order to confirm or deny the mint mark placement.
I am not at the pc right now, so I will attempt to research this on the weekend, unless some one else does it before I get to it.Last edited by MintErrors; 05-17-2024, 10:06 PM.Gary Kozera
