The rim is placed on the planchet by the upsetting mill. The working die does not have a rim, it's a round piece of metal that fits within the area of the planchet. This might be a very minor misalignment, the magnification is up there. But MADs are typically one side of the coin. If both sides are off, it's usually an off center coin.
No photos of the reverse to confirm so I will leave the info and move on to another post.
