CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

    Here's a quarter with a "J" wire strike thru or something and the mintmark is filled and smushy lookin'.

    mm image is blurry. looks like a depth of field issue focal point issue. your closeup would be good enough becuase i can clearly see everything BUT the mm.

      It is familiar you're are correct! I ONLY posted it again with this one BECAUSE it's pretty much the same kind of strike thru design on BOTH coins of a ? style from a wire. What are the odds.

          I LITERALLY FELL OVER after reading that. Nice.
          I did a little more research and it could also be caused from rim fragmented dust build up which the penny looks more with the little dots but the quarter looks to "be full" more like a wire or something with substance. I do hope that I'm not "reading" to much into it?

            The "J" could also be a sliver of reeding that dropped from the collar as well.
            Is it retained? Is it still on the coin ?
            If it is raised, then more than likely retained.
            If it is extremely thin, and almost clear, it could be a stuck through Fiber.

                It can be incused, and if there is not anything in the area, that absolutely fine. It means it was probably sruck through fiber or other debris.
