1958-D RD BU 1C baggy chin with head DC
Looks like a die blowout under Lincoln's chin which caused a "baggy chin" effect and also formed the N/SW DC on top of his hair. You do not have permission to view this gallery.

In my opinion, it's probably planchet related. It may have had a bubble or defect in the planchet. It was then struck, and what you see is the result. It looks to drastic to be machine damage related, if it was MD, it probably would have affected more areas of the coin.
It could be a strike through, but that's pushing the limits of logic.Gary Kozera

In the 1969 edition of “THE CLASSIFICATION AND VALUE OF ERRORS ON THE LINCOLN CENT” by Jean Cohen there are listings for what she called “DIEBREAKS AT TIE”.
CONECA now has the coins and the copyright for Jean Cohen’s collection. Sorry to say they have never done anything with it. You need to get permission from them to post images from the book.
She cataloged, illustrated and listed all kinds of errors, some of which we now call varieties, on the Lincoln Cents from 1909 through 1969. Her book the 1969 edition of “THE CLASSIFICATION AND VALUE OF ERRORS ON THE LINCOLN CENT” is a must have for any collector of Lincoln Cent Errors and Varieties.
If you’re an ANA member you can check the book from the ANA Library. At one time CONECA also had this book in their Library, check with the CONECA Librarian, John Miller, to see if it can be checked out.
Starting on page 279 there 25 listings for die chips on the tie for the 1958D cent. Your die chip matches some of the markers for 58D-T24 on page 280.

So that's a chip and not a "hole" ? One photo looks like a chip, other looks like a hole. I figured a "blowout" was a hole.
This website shows a the libraries which might have a copy of the book. I dont know if they would entertain a buy out of the book or, have one for borrow.
Make sure you choose "all libraries" tab.

In my opinion, the fact that this book hasn't had much movement is sad. It appears to be a decent reference for its time. It's simply a reference to categorize the known errors with some type of number.
Maybe Jamez can add some insight.
I think it would be beneficial if the reference was scanned in and the scanned in book was made available to the public. CONECA could benefit by adding a copy of the membership form to the book, probably best towards the front, after a letter of introduction ? I know it's difficult to recieve money if it's a not for profit or non profit. Add a donations accepted plug. People who download a "free copy" of this might just hit that donate button before or after they have a copy of the digital book in hand. Just my two cents....Gary Kozera

Just My 2 Cents,
I tried to go to the wildcats page from your posted link from “mint errors”
first thing a big turn off for me if the quickness of the “cookies management”
which disappears before you can get to make a choice! Weather it a gov site or any other I don’t go on them, that’s shady and shows their integrity and true intent of money before honesty,
I also got the “oops something went wrong”
seems life is full of scammers ones who truly don’t have hustle in them to truly be honored by scammers themselves as being a true hustler so being that I’ll wait to find my information elsewhere or when it hits light on this platform,
I may be doing something wrong but don’t like sights that start off a scam and that’s a scam to get and sell do what ever from me while visiting their page.
This is not a reflection on the poster “Minterrors” but it’s a thanks but no thanks for that site I’ll get the book when I see it in front of me
I do appreciate you always having great resources “minterrors” but even if legit site, they still are double dipping at the expense of unsuspected persons who visit their site “ not cool” IMO so “ME” I chose to stay away

In my opinion, the website was WORLD CAT . It's a service that lists library books available in local libraries. It is recognized by the internet archive, which crawls billions of web pages. The internet archive has so many resources, it can make some one's head spin. If you go to archive.org (internet archive) looking for a resource, guess what, Worldcat is there as part of the search service.
Before I retired I was heavily involved in network security at two high level commands in the 25 years employed. I am not one to offer a scam site to anyone.
Cookies management is a function within your web browser. All the browsers handle web pages differently. I cannot answer why your system acted weird, I go there without issue, on a pc or a tablet. Web sites DO have issues and throw errors a lot more than people know. Just because a website throws an error, it does not mean it's a bad site. It had an issue and displayed the appropriate response for the condition it was in.
You can do whatever you want with the links I provide. I Personally cannot vouche for alot of them. If you have a decent anti-malware, IPS, firewall or other in-line security protection in place it would have alerted you IF the site was bad. "Assuming" will get people no-where.Last edited by MintErrors; 01-02-2025, 07:40 PM.Gary Kozera

Cool ! The closest to me is the Library of Congress, its definitely a haul to get the book. This one if you can find it for sale will cost quite a lot of Cashola.
But some times a reputable book auction house, i personally found one for sale for just asking. I emailed the company to see if the Shield Nickel book by Fletcher was available. Three weeks later received an email, asking if i was still interested, they had one in hand and it was in great shape. It cost just over the original asking price. I was shocked.Gary Kozera
