PC-25C-1983P-02R
Is this one the precursor to PC-25C-1983P-02R because it's got the die crack going thru "ST" in STATES but not in UNITED except for the little dot on the wing.Last edited by Shleppodella1; 04-13-2025, 09:26 PM.Tags: None

So this designation - is it for cuds on coins ?
Some people may not understand what is going on, so a little amplifying info may help ?
Question ! In the word QUARTER, under the U - is that another area with a potential die crack starting ? Its a little difficult to assess. On the rim near the U, there also appears to be a small dot of damage, not sure if it is raised or incused ?

No there's really no start to the die crack under UNITED except for the little dot mentioned but it looks identical in STATES that's why I suggested it maybe precursor to the cuds-on-coins.com listing. Because I imagine the crack did not form all at onetime it progressively got worse with every strike. Correct?

Yes, more than likely they start as die chips, go to creacks and onward. I dont have any data on how long it typically takes to go from the first stage of a crack to the place where the crack is so noticable that the mint workers remove tbe working die from service.
Quarter working dies can last at least 325,000 strikes. Sometimes they can go much more than that.
