    1940 S/S/S?

Good afternoon. I have a 1940 S Nickel I am going to list. It looks to my untrained eye to be an S/S/S. I have looked it up at Wexler's and only see a S/S for 1940. Any help is appreciated. I want to correctly list this. Thanks. Chris 1940 ss closeup SSS.jpg 1940 ss obv.jpg

In my opinion, the closer photo of the mint mark is too far away. I try to zoom in with a tablet and it gets very grainy and unfocused. I do have some posts in my signature block that might be helpful.

Variety vista lists only one rpm for 1940S. The documented one looks different.
The 1940S has been available for over 80 years. If there were other varieties out there, they would probably have been found and listed/documented by now.

We would have to see a closer shot of the mintmark, with some portion of the corner of the building present. Its much better to have a close up of the mintmark that offers a clear, focused photo. If it is a bit farther away it should be fine. Its best to try to have enough lighting on the mintmark for us to see any possible doubling of the mint mark. If possible keep the glare to a minimum.

Mintmarks were hammered into the working dies by hand and most mintmarks are in slightly different locations. We can confirm or debunk your coin against the documented .

We can then assess the coin and determine if its an RPM or a form of worthless doubling.
