CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

    1852 3C obverse

I'm not sure what's going here on the obverse with that mark and the reverse looks like a CUD started and dare I say it looks sanded or are those metal flow marks?
    It's had a hard life.

Yes, it had a hard life. It's not a cud. Cuds are found on the edge or rims of coins. That mark looks like it was made from a die gouge.

If the area you are talking about is near the rim on the third photo, its tough to tell. In my opinion, this thing has been harshly cleaned. It may have been in the ground as well. No metal flow, i think its cleaned with a harsh chemical and wire brush.

Yes, its probably a die gouge above the date.
