Imaging with a scope vs using a flatbed scanner

I have a general question about scanning a coin on a flatbed scanner at a high resolution vs. using a TOMLOV or CELESTRON imaging device.
The flatbed scanner doesn't show a doubling at 9600dpi when my TOMLOV or CELESTRON do easily. Seems like the scanner software is using AI to
show me what it "thinks" it should be. ??

When you send a coin in to be graded they will only use a 10x loupe. So I'd recommend doing the same and stay away from coping software. The only software I'd worry about is photo editing after you take the pics. You can take photos with your cellphone and loupe I do it all the time.

Only thing i have to say is, in my opinion, the chinese scopes cannot hold a candle to the true microscopes. If your budget is slim, just make if its the chinese ones on shamazon make sure the one you are thinking about purchasing has a memory card slot like a SD card. Or, your taking photos of a tv screen with a cell phone camera which does no good.

Scanners dont get the stereo effect or depth a microscope does. Thats why they are called flat bed scanners. Good for papers and some photos, thats about it. You cannot use the scanner to assess a coin, where as with a scope you can.

There is bound to be a sale in September and November/December on the AMSCOPE.com website. All you need in my opinion is a scope that can go up to 60 or 80x magnification and a microscope camera above 10 megapixels.. In the end, its up to you to decide what you want, and the associated risks and costs.

IMO this advice is backwards. Editing is OK, and it's important to use high resolution when taking photos.

You really don't need to go above 30x for viewing varieties. Keep in mind that "30x" in an Amscope is like 300x in a Tomlov. They don't use the same definition of magnification.

Thats my opinion... but, if you'd like to help someone, answer the original poster. That is the way forums are supposed to work.

Your opinion isnt going to change my way of thought.
I do some great photography of varieties at 80x magnification.
