    Mintmark positioning

I've been trying to find out if there's a "rule" to mintmark positioning cause I don't see anything in Error-Ref.com or anywhere else for that matter as this one's way off from being centered between 9 and 5 or is this acceptable and that's why I can't find anything?
I feel stupid for having to ask as I image it's a regularity with 1950's Wheatbacks.

In my opinion, i read a while back that on Lincoln cents, the area that is acceptable for mint mark position is anywhere south on the flat field below the date. I dont currently have the reference.

I agree that this is dangerously close to the date.

No worries- ask the questions and gaining knowledge about hobby is what its all about.

      Here is one reference:

      Misplaced Mint Mark:
A mint mark that is punched into the die in an area outside of its normal location. On Lincoln cents, anything in the field below the date is considered acceptable. Many of these supposed misplaced mint marks are disagreed upon by experts. Some publications list what are most likely die chips in the date as misplaced mint marks. Others, like the 1958D 1MM-021, which has supposed punchings in the vest area, are still debated. 1953D 1MM-033 is a nice example of a D tilted and lightly punched into the vest area. It can be seen Here at coppercoins.com.

1953D 1MM-033 - I have one of those (CONECA 028) and its quite dramatic under the scope. It was sent to ANACS last year when I sent in a lot of Lincoln FS-numbered coins.

Your coin might fetch a low premium, maybe enough to buy a medium sized breakfast at a fast food location. Depends on what the collector is willing to spend, region the coin is located and timing.
