CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

Recently, we have had a member, who has been posting in both the CONECA forum and the Coin Community Forum, who has had both inaccurate and misleading information. Such information, when it is not correct, is both confusing and tends to be harmful to the error and variety community.

While we at CONECA have not deleted any post made by this individual, the moderates at Coin Community have decide to delete my post concerning this matter calling them a personal attack and "CRAP", their words not mine.

When misinformation is presented, it is the duty of a moderator to establish the truth and correct the mistake. And yet, this was not done in Coin Community Forum. To the opposite, they have sided with the person who is putting this misinformation out

I regret that I will no longer post in the Coin Community Forum because of the attitude taken by their moderators. I caution all of you who do seek information from this site to be cautious of what you read and to double check all information gardener from this site for it maybe incorrect.

    Thank you.

BJ...Sorry to hear about the attitude over there, and a lot of those folks are contributors to other forums as well. However, I would not feel too bad about not posting over there. It has happened in the past where inaccurate info was allowed to continue on, while the corrections were removed. That is one of the primary reasons why I do not go there either. I guess you are just going to have to hang out on the other 237 forums you are a part of.

Seems to be a little added tension in Cointalk as well, perhaps the same individual?

Don't ya hate it when someone posts something that is just plain wrong.... I guess I missed the removed posts.

While this topic is up--I would also like to say that something else that bugs me is when a newbe joins a forum and says they think they found a variety. As soon as they post a photo the 'experts' jump right on him and say fake...or nope.
I mean...sure tell the guy the truth--but can't there be a kind way to help build a learning issue there? Far too often I think we, myself included, forget about when we first started, and don't treat others the way that would be nice.
What I've been trying to do is point out what is missing, and then also show what one should be looking for.

        Ah well--back to my corner

So far in my experience, those that have replied to my inquiries, have been very helpful. In many instances they have explained why it was not what I thought it was and what to look for on a genuine variety. In the couple months I have been on the two forums I am on (not going to mention the other one), I have learned loads.

Hi Speedy - I do know what you mean, sometimes an "expert" is fast with his or her answer and does not explain the reason why.

I do try to explain my reasoning behind what I have answered, but at times, it gets very repetious and we tend to forget (the experts) that this person may not have read the previous posts that you have answered concerning that same question.

As to the person that was the topic of this discussion; yes there were pertanent post removed from that other forum. On the other hand, we did not remove his posts from this forum, but did comment on his lack of knowledge from the answers that he was giving to some of the questions asked.

Oh, Wild Bill (found in rolls) just put him in his place on CT. Whew.. Gonna grab me some popcorn and watch from the front row.

You mean I cant read a book on errors and become an expert overnight? I have to actually look at hundreds of thousands of coins to get a feel of what really happens during the minting process and how errors coins come to be? Dang....Guess I might as well sell the coin in my avatar, not gonna retire on that one.. sigh..

              I like correct information!
