I have received my shipment from the mint for the 2007 Silver Proof set and found an "error?" on the 1 cent which I like for some one to explain. The error is difficult for me to explain as I am new to the error and variety collecting but I will try. Here is a description
A piece of metal of what looks like the rim came off but remains attached on one end to the rim, yet it floats "just barely" above the surface. It is about 1/4 of an inch long and obscures most the "LI" in LIBERTY. It is highly polished to a mirror finish just like the rest of the coin is. What is strange is that it floats just above the surface and if the coin is tilted at 45 degrees then the entire word LIBERTY is clearly visible. This sliver of metal does not leave any marks on the surface of the coin.
I am also new to this site and still struggling to learn how to use this forum. I have tried to attach pictures but was unable to reduce the file size to upload it on this site. Having said all that, I truly would appreciate it if some one would contact me via email with their description of this error. I will send you pictures via email. My email is mkotaich@hotmail.com. Thank you so kindly for your assistance.
