CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

  • Die Break-What is it??

I have a question that I am sure has been asked and answered here countless time. BUT, I'm new to the forums so please forgive me. Is a die break an error or a variety. I can't seem to get a concrete answer. It seems to be both from what I see online so far?? That seems wrong to me. Thanks all.

A die break is a die error. With that being said, some authorities don't agree, so this is somewhat of an ambiguous area. I say it isn't a die variety because the new, unused die did not have a break.

I like your reasoning with an unused die. Thanks.

I agree completely. This is definitely an error...not a variety.
