CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

Innovation Coin color variety???

    Innovation Coin color variety???

    I just opened a mint roll of 2018 George Washington Innovation 1$ coins and noticed that 1 coin is a very different color as the rest of the coins. Any thoughts??

    That one is indeed very different. It still has luster and It does appear to be missing a clad layer. Could you weigh it along with a couple of the others?

      I weighed several regular coins and then the odd color coin. They wight the same 8.1+ but less than 2 grams. The reverse is the normal color. Could it still be missing a clad layer and weigh the same as the others? Probably a silly question but I am a NUBE.

        It very well could be missing a clad layer from only one side. I suggest you do a google search on 'missing clad layer coins' and you will see many examples. I am not 100% certain that is what you have. I will leave it for the error gurus here.

            Post a photo of the other side please. It could just be discolored on one side.

              The reverse of the coin is the normal color...no discoloraiton. As I keep opening mint rolls I have come across 3 more times. So out of about 150 coins, I have 4 of these. I have done more research and I think it might be toning?. Has anyone seen "gold" coins (President, Sakagua, Native American) with a different color on one side like this??

                There are so many ways environmentally a coin accidentally be toned you couldn't list or predict them.
