  • 1939 D RPM?

    Hell all,
I have a 1939 Jefferson nickel with what appears to be an rpm. I’d like your feedback and opinions. Thank you.

      Afternoon Optic,
Very nice photo's by the way, makes things alot easier to define within the photo.

Can you pull the photo back so we can see all of ""America""?
The last photo i'm picking up some MD Machine damage to the South of the "CA" of AMERICA and I bet that is what i'm seeing to the East of Monticello. I don't see a split serif that I can say is definitely an RPM. The coin to me looks like it either has a damaged punch or bag damage from other coins.
What you are seeing inside the mintmark is most likely a piece of lint or other debris. I cannot tell you to try and rub it off, but if it was my coin; that is what I would do first.

        Thank you kindly,
I have taken a few more pictures unfortunately my scope won’t let me take full coin image so I had to use my phone. On a few different angles it almost looks like three tiers on some two. In the middle of the Mint mark it’s all metal. I use a Q-tip to try and rub it out, then a carefully used a plastic toothpick still couldn’t move anything but the coin. Also I took the pictures after I tried all this mostly to see if it changed anything.

            Once again very nice photo's.
Around the primary mintmark is MD. Possibly a light tilt to the west but since it's not protruding into the field I wouldn't think it was listable. What is in the center intrigues me, problem is it doesn't appear to be a nice curve, looks somewhat broken in the middle. Did you by chance find more than one of these? that would verify a die and not moved metal.
            Eric

Update. Last photo - nothing in the middle so this was lint or debris on the coin. What you are seeing to the west is definitely MD not an RPM - Sorry.
