CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

2008 P Alaska State Quarter "Claw"

    2008 P Alaska State Quarter "Claw"

    I found a 2008 P Alaska State quarter with the crossed or extra claw on the left paw of the bear (see pic). On EBay there are several of these identical extra claw coins for sale. I am trying to find out if this is a "recognized" error. PCGS does not identify on thier website and I can't find in in Wexlers or Cherry Pickers... I am not sure what this would be called. I looked under double dies but it was not there. Any suggestions??

    It is a simple die chip. The 'Extra Claw' name is a way for people to make money from an otherwise meaningless chip.
