CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

  • 1977 D mint mark unfinished?

    This 1977 penny has a D mint mark but it looks unfinished or something. Can someone pls explain what n why this happens? Im just trying to learn. Thank you.

    This appears to be a scraped mintmark where the excess metal moved into the void of the mint mark and has since worn over. I see some damage at the base of both 7's so I am thinking this is likely what happened. Another possibility is a filled mintmark where a die chip formed inside the mint mark.
