New 1984D Nickel RPM

The Wiles website currently shows a single 1984D Jefferson RPM with a north/south orientation. I recently found this rotated 84D RPM and contacted Mr. Wiles with the attached images. He suggested that I post this message and images on this forum for your review. If the base (lower mint mark) is considered the first punch, then it appears to me that the RPM is a CW rotation with nice split serifs on the NW corner of the "D".

Hello MSL615, I see what you are referring to on the SW. I also see some minor strike doubling on the 4 of the date. I do NOT see a raised serif within the field to the SW. I think this will turn out to be Strike doubling, but a little un sure. Do you see any other SE separation on the date? If so it is Strike doubling.

HI...thank you for the review, and I am uploading some new images with different angles lighting to help the discussion. This is certainly a tough one, and not like other clear RPMs.

There is some die deterioration on the motto side, image attached, but not particularly helpful to the mintmark issue.
There is machine doubling straight east seen on Jefferson's upper lip, image attached.
An image of the coin near the date and mintmark attached. I agree that I can see machine doubling on the date. The field machine mark is to the SE and the main device appears to be NW.
The mintmark also appears to have MD, but more direct north (instead of NW on the date),
but I can't make sense of the rotation best seen on the NW corner. The was the PUP when I was scanning the coin.
I agree that the field mark to the west on the mintmark is not separated with a split serif. I was fooled by that strong shadow of the NW corner of the mintmark.

This is one of those cases where if it takes this much work, then it is probably not real!

Thanks for the extra follow up photo's mike.
I think this one will be MD. There is just to much on the devices plus it's there on the date with the mintmark photo in the same direction.
Keep looking, the 80's stuff is still out there waiting to be found

Thank you for the work on the nickel, I appreciate your time and knowledge of the minting processes. This coin can go back into the general group of unc nickel sets.
