Acquiring Errors ?
As I am new to collecting error coins, I was looking on EBAY for learning about different types of errors and noticed one stated "Type 2 Clad Quarter planchet (w/rim) with coin webbing included. I have purchased rolls in the past and find a few errors, however this would not fit in a coin roll. How would one come across or discover an error coin that is outside the normal size of the type of coin, without buying it individually? Any help?Tags: None

In years gone by, the mint sold bags of coins to the public. That was where many of these larger than normal errors were found. Now days, huge totes full of coins are sent to facilities to put into rolls. Their rolling machinery will catch these errors now and they are supposed to be disposed of/destroyed.
Unless you manage to find unopened bags in the market place, you are unlikely to find these types of errors. There are still chances of finding some nice errors if they can fit into a roll. Otherwise, it you want some of the nicer and more scarce errors, you do have to buy them in the secondary market like eBay.Bob Piazza

Thank you Bob for your response! My initially attraction to this new interest was that I would search and collect errors from each category. Based on your answer, I would be limited to a certain group of error coins.
I have to say, for now, It is the hunt that I am most excited and challenged to pursue! It sounds like my search is not in discovery but just finding the right market to buy many of the errors. Or... is that the challenge that many do pursue collecting error coins? Maybe I limit my error coin collection to those that can be 'found.' I'm curious as what others find interesting in collecting error coins?

You can also find varieties in most US denominations. Ebay has a slew of world coins that have overdates as well. For the US coins, if you are interested in collecting varieties, you may want to check out

It has wide assortment of recognized varieties from a lot of different denominations. There are other websites out there as well. It all depends on what you are looking for. A brief blurb of each error/variety can be seen here:
