CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

1939 Jefferson Nickel reverse of 1940? DDO? DDR?

    1939 Jefferson Nickel reverse of 1940? DDO? DDR?

    I'm wondering if my 1939 Jefferson nickel is the reverse of 1940? DDO? DDR? I have 68 close-up photos of the coin's obverse and reverse so it's really tough choosing which ones to show you since I can only pick a total of 8 for this post. I'll do my best, here goes

    I apologize that I forgot to tell you what I am seeing here. On the obverse , Liberty the star and the 1 in the date show doubling. On the reverse, no spread at all, just slight notches. I have tried to locate matching DDO's and DDR's. I've looked on Variety Vista and through John Wexlers site doubleddie.Com atributer for Jefferson nickels, Brian's varieties.com. On Brian's varieties there are several DDO's for 1939 that look very similar to this but the die markers are all wrong and none are a match

          First off, I am 99% sure this is a reverse of 1940 because the steps on the 1939's are typically very weak while the 1940's steps are very strong. (see link)

          Secondly, I am pretty sure this coin is a DDO-the split-serifs show really well on the S and T in TRUST

          If it is unlisted, I would either wait to have it attributed here, or have it looked at by Wexler (doubleddie.com).

            I like it here because there is a forum that I can use to get help with a coin before deciding for sure if it is worth making a post in the attributions services section for die varieties. Plus I am a new paid member "N-6843" so it will be much more economical with Coneca. They even sent me a Lincoln cent RPM with my membership card. How cool is that! I am totally Not downing John Wexler's doubleddie.com. It's truly an amazing resource and they are exceedingly awesome over there too, but for me, I'll wait here. Thank you very much CoinHunter for checking out my nickel and for your confident optimism
