CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

1972-S $1 DDO-006

    1972-S $1 DDO-006

    Someone sent me a coin recently saying it was a DDO-006. As this variety isn't shown on VarietyVista, and doesn't match those that are shown, I assume it was added to the CML after VV stopped being updated. If so, how does one find these updates?

    I would ask whoever you got it from, where they got the attribution number from. The Wexler files do list a WDDO-006 (Proof). You may want to take a look here:

        They might be able to help you identify the variety.

          Ike Group only lists a single DDO for 72-S silver proofs on their website. It seems the owner pulled this attribution out of the old Wexler/Flynn book, which Wexler says has been entirely superseded by newer information and a realization that most of the doubling observed is in the master die. He now lists 6 by WDDO numbers and there are 5 on the CONECA page. There is no correlation given between any of the varieties on the two lists.

            Ah, I do recall when the 1971S dollars got re-designated as working hub doubled and were no longer considered DDO/DDR. I did not realize the same happened to the 1972S dollars. If you have images you might want to post them in the "Doubled dies" section of the Ike Group forum. They may be able to state if it is known or new.
