Good morning everyone!
My mom got me a 1968 proof set for Christmas, and I have had great fun looking the coins over and researching all the cool stuff about this proof set. In my examination, I am pretty sure I have the 1968 S Proof Quarter RDV-005 Type E Reverse. My understanding is that they represent 1% or less of the entire proof mintage for that year, and finding information other than that has proven incredibly difficult. My hope is to positively identify this coin and an estimated value (as this information seems to be absolutely nowhere) I intend to put this this information on a slip to be included with this coin in my personal collection that I am saving for my kids. My best resources so far have been VarietyVista and Heartland Coin Club's PDF on the different reverse design varieties for Washington Quarters ( http://www.heartlandcoinclub.com/Doc...d%20Beyond.pdf), and after exhaustively comparing this Quarter to examples of the very common RDV-008 and the extremely rare RDV-005, I find that this coin ticks all the boxes (the eagles head feather is almost non-existent, the first two leaves below the tail feathers touch the feathers but the third does not, the left wing has the slight incuse line, the N in UNUM is the short leg rather than the long leg, the M in UNUM does not bracket with the IB in PLURIBUS, there is no doubling on the Q in QUARTER or the lower leaves, etc).
I am hoping that somebody here with more experience than myself can compare my photos to the source materials/their experience and knowledge and confirm or disprove this for me and help me understand the finer differences in these design varieties. I appreciate your time and patience, and I apologize in advance for the washout on the obverse/reverse photos, my camera isn't very good but I'm doing my best!
Please see below for aforementioned images (there's a lot of them).
