CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

  • Im not sure what I found, please help.

Hi everyone, here are some weird Lincoln cents I found in circulation over the years. I have hundreds so I’m going to start posting some pics and if you want to give your opinion on what they are I would greatly appreciate it. Please feel free to post your own pics for help with identification. Thanks

OK...Standard forum protocol statements here. Only one coin per post. Also, be specific on what you see so we can concentrate on that. In addition, please post your photos in the proper orientation. It helps a great deal.

yeah, I personally don't have the time to go through a hoard to see what is what. You might find a local coin shop which, if not extremely busy could give basic answers to most coins. You have to remember that once a coin becomes circulated, these coins are subject to all sorts of post mint damage (PMD) meaning people do weird stuff to coins, from magician coin attempts, leaving them in dryers for a period of time, squeezing them in a vice... their creativity is endless.

I will say that the wheat cent above almost looks like it suffers from environmental damage. It may have been in the ground. The coin edge definitely looks post mint damage. It LOOKS like there is an area there that it could be a magicians coin, or some one took two coins hollowed them out and put them together. I see a pry mark there, probably from a jewelers screwdriver. the area is located on he reverse, close to "OF". It's tough to tell from a photo. IF it were my coin, I would try to take a jewelers screw driver and see if that wheat cent comes apart in two pieces. To me, it is not worth anything so it would become copper scrap.

It definitely looks post mint damage as planchets (coin blanks) are not made like this.

Again, a coin dealer could examine SOME of these at time and give his assessment of them. We are here to help, but within a reasonable amount of requests. There are plenty of others that need questions answered as well.

Geez I really screwed this one up sorry everyone I’m not very experienced with forums of any kind and figured I’d post something and hope for a response. Didn’t mean to imply that I expected anyone to spend their time on my coins.
