CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

Clipped washer

    Clipped washer

    I found this clipped washer at work the other day. When you look at the side you can see that the original stamping cuts cleanly for about the first 25% then the cuts a bit ragged for the rest of the cut. You can see that this washer flipped upside down and was clipped on the 2nd hit because the shiny part is reversed. I'm hoping this info is applicable to coins as I have started to search for the clipped coins I know I have somewhere...

    I wouldn't think the process is the same for coins as it is for other hardware. The punching out of coin blanks is a single hit, not multiple.

      The washer just flipped and got punched again. A clipped planchet is completely different. Its a planchet that was punched out of an area that was already punched from the sheet. When its a straight clip, it was punched out the edge of the sheet
