1987 D NIFC rim errorI like searching half dollar rolls from the bank. My last $500 box was exciting. I found 3 (65, 68, 69) 40% silver and 6 NIFC halves. One of the coins is the 1987 D pictured here. I did not realize the year because I saw the strange edge. It looks to me as the plainchant somehow got caught it the machine and caused the pinching on one side. I have seen double die, dates and die breaks. What do you all think of this coin? You do not have permission to view this gallery.

What does the reeded edge look like in the area of issue ?

This might be a partial collar error.

side edge 1987 d v1.jpgWell, I tried to get the best shot of the rim on it side. I have looked at the lines of the rim and the damage. They seem to line up.
 Thoughts?

After seeing the rim, this does not appear to be a partial collar.
Sumd is usually right on his calls.
