    1987 D NIFC rim error

I like searching half dollar rolls from the bank. My last $500 box was exciting. I found 3 (65, 68, 69) 40% silver and 6 NIFC halves. One of the coins is the 1987 D pictured here. I did not realize the year because I saw the strange edge. It looks to me as the plainchant somehow got caught it the machine and caused the pinching on one side. I have seen double die, dates and die breaks. What do you all think of this coin?

What does the reeded edge look like in the area of issue ?

This might be a partial collar error.

side edge 1987 d v1.jpgWell, I tried to get the best shot of the rim on it side. I have looked at the lines of the rim and the damage. They seem to line up.
      Thoughts?

I have something similar but I think it was a quarter I found in a mint set. The mint cello sealer caught the edge of the coin. I believe your coin would only qualify as post mint damage. JMHO.

After seeing the rim, this does not appear to be a partial collar.
Sumd is usually right on his calls.

Well I guess I won't lose money by sending it in for grading now. Thank you two for checking out my coin.
