CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

  • 1973 D LMC RPM?

    Good evening,
The coin in the photos looks like a CONECA: RPM-004 / Copper Coins: 1973D-1MM-009 but with doubling to the west, as opposed to doubling to the south on the referenced RPM. I would appreciate any opinions on what I may have here.
    Thank you!

For the record, if you will, the repunched mintmarks were hammered into metal working dies. The mintmarks were set and do not move. Over time as dies wear down, they would lose some definition, but that is about it.

You are right about it not being listed.

My opinion on this is, it could very well be just a die chip, or the start of a die break. It is tough to say because I cannot get close enough to give you a better answer. To me, the shape is just not right, it seems too triangular.

I agree that this appears to be a die break, not an RPM.

        Gary,
Thank you for your insight on this one, it had me stumped, LOL.I do suspect a die chip is the likely culprit.
        Enjoy your day sir!
