Been a whileHey everyone it's been a while since I've posted. Anyway here is a 1999 Lincoln Penny no mint. This thing felt funny when I first picked it up. Like fake funny. When I weighed it it weighed in at 3.11g I weighed another same year and it weighed 2.5. it looks funny too. But I will let the you experts decide.Tags: None

If it is 3.11g, It is definitely over weight for the year. If your weight is correct, then it needs to be sent to an examiner. Once verified, it would be a good coin to send in to a TPG for authentication and maybe being struck on an overweight or foreign planchet.Bob Piazza

3.11 is the weight of a copper cent. One thing that can be tried is the ring test. I recommend using a good known copper cent and finding a location like a tile floor, marble countertop or other location. Take that extra copper cent and practice dropping it on the rim and listen for a ringing noise as it hits. Once you have perfected that method, try the coin in question.

I am not at my pc, so I cannot provide a link to a 70 or so page pdf file which has a listing of foreign coins made at US Mints. If I have some time tomorrow, I will locate it and add it here. I do not remember if it goes into the 1990s or not.
