CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

My 52 Lincoln.

    My 52 Lincoln.

    Hello, first time poster here. I have collected raw coins for quite some time now, it is something my mother got me curious to years ago by showing me an 1838 large cent her grandfather had given her and she eventually gave to me to hand down to someone that would continue the process. My daughter recently gave me a digital microscope that opened a door to “other” ways of looking at coins. That is what brought me to CONECA, to possibly see and share. Thank you, and good hunting.
    I will start with a 52 Lincoln. I am curious as to opinion of the many ways this coin may have developed.

        Hi Ronald. Welcome to the forum! As far as your coin goes, you have to determine if you think your coin is a variety (Doubled die, Repunched Mintmark etc.) or an error coin of some sort. You would then post them under the appropriate sub category from the forum home page.

        A couple things to remember concerning forum protocol...

        One coin per post please

        Please be specific and identify what it is you are seeing on your coin

        Try to post the best possible photographs and zoom in comfortably enough to help us see what you want us to.

        Now...as far as this 1952 coin, I am assuming you are referring to the 'letters' on the rim above PLURIBUS UNUM?

        This appears to be post strike damage. Those letters seem to be incuse and inverted. This usually means the coin was sandwiched between other coins and struck or hammered which resulted in portions like what you see here. We call them 'Garage coins'.
