Beat up 1972 no mint mark dime unusually high torch flame
Hi can someone look at this 1972 no mint mark dime and tell me if this is wear damage to the coin or a die issue at the top of this flame on the reverse. I see lines from the top of the torch not affect the bottom of the S and the past the bottom of the S without the S being affected therefore i personally dont think its normal damage from circulation. The high flame appearance is something I have not seen before on any dime. I know there is 2 variations of the torch flame but this I feel is unusual to find.Tags: None

It is really difficult to know exactly where the gouges came from. It is possible it was on the die before it struck the coin, or it could indeed be from circulation damage that has since worn over. It could also be a combination of die deterioration with the gouges. Interesting...Bob Piazza

Yeah when I saw the bottom of the S was not damaged i figured its a die issue but not sure how it could possibly happen without affecting the S, I will just save it for my own personal collection, the coin is to far gone to be worth anything in my honest opinion but its kinda neat. Thank you mustbebob
