CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

    I'm no expert but I believe it is normal... based on the environment the coins are subjected to and also considering the composition of the metal

      Very common. Environmental factors and storage contribute to the changes in color.

          Not usually. They can be very common and can be artificially made easily as well. As always, it is supply and demand. If you have something that someone likes or wants, and the price is good, then you may make a dollar or two. Some people like toned cents a lot.

            I tried to sell a couple of coins with unique toning on Ebay and did not get any interest. Later I sold a handful of Canadian coins which included a toned 10 cent coin. When I looked at the Buyer's profile I saw he has a sight focused on selling toned coins. Not sure how many he sells but if he only sold 5% of what he has for sale he must be doing ok.
