1989 lmc black lines affects both sides
04BCCE8D-B4FF-41BD-A1E8-28AED105DD9A.jpeg I found a Lincoln cent with thick black lines that get larger going from left to right on the reverse. The obverse is also affected by these lines. I am curious if anybody can help me identify what happened and what I’m looking at . Thank you kindlyLast edited by Igotitbad; 05-01-2023, 12:28 AM.Tags: None

Are these "lines" you are referring to parallel to the rim and in the middle of IN GOD WE TRUST and USA?
If so, those are referred to as a "ridge ring" and are usually the result of die deterioration.
Some lines on coins can be described as straight and parallel to each other (roller lines), concentric to the center (lather lines), or even radiating from the center (like die flow lines).

(In my first reply I was trying to get clarification on which lines you were asking about. The "ridge ring" I mentioned is going through the middle of the letters in an arc and is a type of die deterioration.)
