  • Shield nickels 4 new cherry picks

1685929075323.jpgI've been hunting Shield nickels for quite sometime now. I must admit the series sort of fell off my radar for sometime now...until something put me on the hunt again.
Now I am a variety collector first and for most.... part....so I do at time make allowances for detailed coins. As some varieties are rare enough for this collector to over look certain items that may or would detail a coin.
so today I won 4 shield nickel varieties and I did it under the value of just one of the 4 coins. I managed to pick an 1867 W/R ddo FS- 1867-05-302
    an 1868 FS 1868-05 -401 missing leaf & rpd
    next the 1874 ddo FS-1874-101

but my prize was an 1876 variety thats been on the hit list quite awhile now.....the 1876 bleeder variety topp 20 shield nickel varieties. The bleeder has vertical lines going up thought the horizontal lines. A slip of a scribe by a mint worker no doupt.

            neat lot.

a welcome change of what is usually posted.

kinda surprised the "bleeder" is a list coin. this happened all the time on capped bust halves and are great attribution points. must be extremely rare on shield nickels.

i believe the terms are pales, tines and gules.

I have had some slabed, and again there's some thats been busted out. I do all my own attributions on the series I collect.
i am currently working on filling in some holes in my nickel album stored in a wayte raymond album set.1866-1976. I also collect half dimes 1829-1837 & 1837-1873. Indian head cents, and assorted Seated coin varieties.
