CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

    Wonderful Multi Interest 1985D Cent

…and a reply post to hold the rest of the photos.

    Doubling of the earlobe form.

The 3rd side being unusually rough, and due to zinc bubbles covering all of the obv and rev rim, from no collar holding the planchet in the coining press while it was struck.

if there were no collar, it would be broadstruck and a larger diameter. it is possible those lines are just from punching the blank from the stock and somehow survived the striking process.

this would be somewhat commenserate to the flowing (or perhaps draped) dollars that had mint made adjustment mark gouges that weren't fully struck out, if they did it before strike. now i think about it, i'm not sure if they filed the flans before or after. i'd have to look it up again.

i hope we get some secondary commentary on this one.

      Error-ref.com says it’s collar damage.

Nice follow-up to the original assessment.

I've seen those lines before and, hopefully, in the future I can remember what produced them.
