CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

Hi .ive had this coin quite awhile and have thought of sending it of for grading .you may notice the doubling split on United split on N D and across other lettering of USA.

In my opinion, I see machine damage, especially on AMERICA. If this wad a doubled die, with that much of an offset, the doubling would have caused the lettering to be quite wide. Here it looks like normal width letters, with no added thickness.

Would machine doubling cause split letter to that degree?

In my opinion, this looks like damage to me. As I try to zoom in, the photos go blurry, but they look like holes or damage. I don't have the time to go to

And attempt to find an exact match. I have had proof Lincoln cents exhibit the same sort of issue, and it was mechanical (worthless) doubling.

You can wait for other opinions, or you can create a post on the coneca services forum, under the examinations sub-group and see what they say. I highly recommend putting as much info and photos as possible so it's a one post answer. This way, you won't have to wait for a 2nd response.
