CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

    I suggest researching
    Longacre doubling

I bought the 2 volume electronic version of Rick Snow's Fling Eagle and Indian Head cent varieties book(s). In my opinion, it's a great reference with great descriptions and photographs. At the end of each year/section he gives a summary and some have cross reference numbers to other organizations.

I like to look to see if an example was already documented. If I do not see a variety listed, and it's questionable whether it's a variety or not, I would place them in the non variety wooden boxes and move on.

Now, if it is a variety that slaps me across the head and not listed, that great but I have to check the counterfeit listings and then consult some one that's well versed in Indian Head cents.

I will add that the Indian Head cent has quite a few varieties, mainly repunched dates. It depends on the collectors taste and their budget, equipment and time. If I had to start over, I would probably would have collected more Indian Head cents, since almost every year does have some sort of variety.
