  • 1790 Obv dbl strike VOC "NY penny"

Here's another one outta the detector find. It was a little cruddy so I cleaned it up with some Polident and Acetone. Dbl strike on obv and rev has a strike thru above the right lion from the left side of O in VOC. From what I can deffer this is a 1 duit from the East Indies Company but were used in commerce here in America so it is a foreign mint. Now these were struck by hand back then after heated really quickly and then put between a stationary anvil die and then a hammer die over and struck or were they put into that device that looked like a garlic press and struck it?

These older coins are neat, but they don't make any sense to me. An avid collector of foriegn overdates wanted a second opinion on a coin likevthisvthat was on a popular bidding and selling platform. It was a coin like this but had stronger strikes.

Problem was, the seller had 4 coins listed, each one was exactly the same issues, in the same location. Unless the dies had a huge die clash, this was suspect in my mind at the time....

It pictured at least 2 strikes, with one strike way off center, although the coin planchet was completely round. I voiced my opinion/concerns and he saw what I was referring to.

exceptional quality for a ground find!

interesting pivot point around k1-2, rotated clockwise.

it may behoove you to find a specialty book for these and/or coinage for the time/area as i've looked them up and there seems to be a lot of variants, like most older coinage.

i offer no opinion for authenticity as these are not my area.
