CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

    found a few of them in the same unc roll last week , are they errors or just a mechanical malfunction ? the

    no legal tender intended for circulation copper/bronze usa coin has reeds except 1795 s-79. there may be some patterns, commems etc tho. i seem to remember at least an indian cent pattern with reeds?

    those marks i'd say are 99% from being punched from stock. i doubt it is common but i'd say probably not too rare either.

    if there is anything special about them and/or extra value, i am unaware. people collect the darndest things, ya know?

    i'm sure error-ref has a good explanation if you wanna dig over there. not a bad way to spend your numismatic time.

      In my opinion, those are not reeds. They are not deep enough nor are they equally spaced out.
      Those marks may have been from the blanking machine which cuts out the blanks from strips of metal.
